while stuff in traffic i thought..

the windows were opaque with luggage, and i was cramped in the back of a toyota Rav 4 on the way back from florida, we hit traffic....again. upon our map of southeastern states was an alternate route. impatient and tired of standing still, we exited and pursued our new plan, which ended up adding on an extra two hours to our trip.

such. is. life.

sometimes we need to sit still and assess where we are. sometimes it isn't so bad if we just wait it out. sometimes, we don't need an exit or an alternate plan. just a little bit of patience, or a lot a bit of patience to digest the situations we are in, can go a long way. the benefits we receive do not immediately follow the actions we take, but it the long run they are for the best. we all know we can't have the sunshine without the rain, so why are we so quick to jump ship as soon as something is slightly overcast? why do we work around them instead of through them? i'm not saying that painful situations demand the standstill we saw in whereverthehellwewere, florida. but, there is a wealth of life in the god only knows fund. quick solutions are often temporary fixes that further perpetuate the original problem. take time. think.

it's hard to believe that what is painful is for the best, but that is often the case. anyone who doesn't believe that everything happens for a reason is full of shit. otherwise, why would it happen? the reason is you're supposed to learn, to be challenged, and sometimes not to know why the hell it happened, and learn to be okay with that. it's growth, it's maturity, it's a bitch. above all, it's character building. i'd rather test myself with sink or swim challenges than wade in the water.

i was never one for physics, so even when i learned newtons laws i applied them in a creative sense. for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction. that newton really knew his stuff. we usually commit some kind of action that gets us into trouble, and getting out of that? well typically it's the equally as strong antidote. even if it is just a lesson learned for the future, when confronted with that same painful situation, as we inevitably will be, opposite and equal is the way we fly. if we never got knocked off of our high horses, how would we learn to get back on?

-k.
